FAQ

Everything you need to know before you buy a UV platform

Straight answers on materials, cost of ownership, maintenance intervals, ROI and financing. If your question isn't here, call us, we'd rather answer it now than after the sale.

1. Understanding UV Printing

What exactly is UV printing and how does it work?
UV printing uses ultraviolet light to instantly cure specialized inks onto almost any material. The result is durable prints that hold their color with no drying time. Catalyst printers use advanced UV LED systems for energy-efficient curing and consistent results on everything from acrylic and metal to wood and coated glass.
What materials can I print on?
With the Catalyst Nanos and Catalyst Aventra, you can print on metal, acrylic, wood, glass, ceramic, leather, many plastics, and even some fabrics. Both models handle rigid and semi-flexible substrates with precise height adjustment and vacuum bed stability.
What are the main types of UV printers?
There are flatbed, hybrid, roll-to-roll, and cylindrical UV printers. Catalyst focuses on industrial flatbed technology for precision and durability, offering both compact (Nanos) and larger-format (Aventra) systems.
What makes UV printing superior to sublimation, DTF, or screen printing?
UV printing eliminates setup time, chemical prep, curing delays and secondary processes. You print directly onto the object, no transfer, no heat press, no waste. Catalyst printers deliver instant-cure output ready for handling or shipping immediately.

2. Choosing the Right Machine

How do I choose the best UV printer for my business?
If you are entering UV printing or adding it to an existing laser, CNC, or awards shop, start with the Catalyst Nanos. For higher throughput, larger materials, or production-grade jobs, the Catalyst Aventra is ideal. Evaluate and compare key revenue and cost drivers such as ink cost and speed.
How do they compare to the other major brands, or imports?
Catalyst printers are engineered for the modern mid-market: industrial-grade components, U.S.-made inks, industry-leading warranty and support, and intelligent workflow software. Catalyst printer inks are made in the U.S. and cost 30-65% less than the M–, R– and L– cartridge brands.
What is the print size and speed difference between Nanos and Aventra?
The Nanos offers a practical print area suited for smaller objects and jigs, while the Aventra scales up to full-sheet capacity with higher print speeds, ideal for signage, panels, or high-volume runs, while still remaining a strong platform for small item decoration.
Are these printers future-proof?
Yes. Both models integrate with the evolving Catalyst ecosystem, including data dashboards, predictive maintenance, and app-based job tracking. The physical platform uses current motor, head and driver technology so low-cost replacement parts remain available for years and the systems integrate with future software additions.

3. Cost, ROI, and Ownership

How much does a professional UV printer cost?
The Catalyst Nanos typically starts around USD $14,900, while the Catalyst Aventra retails at $37,900. The Nanos competes directly with the comparable compact platforms from the major brands. Aventra has a larger print area than those compact models and the mid-size series in the same class, is 3-5x faster than the high-volume series, and costs about $10,000 less with lower consumables and parts cost.
What is the average ROI period?
Most Catalyst owners recover their investment within 12-24 months, depending on utilization and product mix. High-margin personalized goods and short-run manufacturing applications can shorten ROI even further.
What are the ongoing costs?
The bulk-ink system minimizes consumable costs. With optimized ink flow and low maintenance downtime you achieve a lower cost per print than most competitors in this class. We recommend damper and cap top replacement at 6-month intervals, and suggest budgeting an 18-month printhead replacement interval, though all timeframes can be longer.
Do you offer financing?
Yes. We work with Geneva Capital to pre-clear and structure equipment financing, so ready-to-ship systems can be installed and generating revenue before the financing cost lands.

4. Operation and Maintenance

How easy is it to operate?
Catalyst printers are designed for simplicity, intuitive interface, rapid setup, and auto-calibration minimize training time.
What software is included?
Each Catalyst printer includes an industry-standard Print Pro RIP optimized for color accuracy and template-driven efficiency, plus connectivity to the Catalyst Manager app for analytics and maintenance.
How does Catalyst prevent common UV issues?
Both models include white-ink recirculation, dual-zone curing, and advanced printhead protection systems that prevent clogging and banding. The best ways to ensure longevity of UV printers, in addition to the smart systems listed above, are to keep the machines active and clean.

5. Growth and Business Integration

Can UV printing expand my current business?
Absolutely. Catalyst printers enable laser and CNC shops, awards companies, and manufacturers to add high-value color personalization instantly, without retooling their operations. In most cases they fit into existing workflows, letting companies expand their product offerings with full color using existing substrates and customer base.
Does Catalyst offer business support?
Yes. From ROI calculators and layout templates to custom training and marketing guidance, Catalyst supports your business growth. Our technical team is comprised of industry experts who have worked with large-scale personalization companies to bring best practices to print operations.
Can I see the machine run before I buy, and test my own substrate?
Yes. We run live 1-on-1 virtual demos with your files, host in-person bench tests at our St. Petersburg facility, and ship custom sample kits printed on your hardest substrates so you can verify adhesion and color before committing.

Next step

See it run on your own substrates before you commit.

Send us the file and the material that worries you most. We run it on an in-stock Aventra, film the result, and ship the cured parts back to your shop.
